CEBU, Philippines - One person died while another was injured when a motorcycle rammed into a cargo truck at the national highway in Sitio Manuong, Barangay Don Pedro, Bogo City last Wednesday evening.
Ryan Alcalde Bayo, 19, died because of severe head injury while his cousin Michael Bayo, 31, who was driving the motorcycle sustained minor injury.
The victims were on their way home to Barangay Poblacion, Bogo City came from Barangay Argawanon in San Remigio when they crashed into the cargo truck parked on the highway.
The victims were first rushed to Don Severo Verallo District Hospital in Bogo City where Ryan was declared dead. Michael on the other hand was transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
SPO1 Ramonito Canja said the cargo truck driven by Freddie Muñez Cabarles, 35, of Barangay Banban, Bogo City was parked on the roadside because its front tire was flat.
Cabarles was allegedly changing the tire when he suddenly heard a crash sound behind his vehicle. The police said the cargo truck did not have an early warning device that could have warned the victims ahead.
Cabarles is now detained at the Bogo City police station while charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and serious physical injuries are being prepared against him. (FREEMAN)
