Free call center training launched

CEBU, Philippines - A Memorandum of Agreement was signed yesterday between private and public organizations in order to provide more opportunities for less fortunate to find jobs in the booming call center industry.

Together with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, The Cebu City Federation of Parents, Teachers and Community Association Incorporated has partnered with the Call Center Academy, the Cebu City government and the Department of Education to give free training for qualified applicants to hone skills required for call centers, java programming and medical transcription.

Harvey Inoc, Federation PTA Inc. president explained that, they see the boost in the BPO industry and the increase of employment opportunities especially in Cebu.

He said this program is an answer to President Benigno Aquino’s goal to have the number of jobless Filipinos lessened. Also, since the training is TESDA accredited it would give them opportunities even outside the country.

The scholarships provided by the program are for call center training, Java programming and medical transcription.

Inoc said that they came up with this program because companies like call centers or those in need of Java programmers and medical transcriptionists require the needed background and qualifications before hiring personnel.

He said that through the training, the trainees would be equipped with the needed skills and also be assisted in looking for jobs.

Screening for qualified trainees started yesterday and would continue for the next Saturdays of the month.

Kristelle Ong, manager of Call Center Academy, said that those who would pass the screening process would go through a one- month training for call center and two months for Java programming and medical transcription.

Ong said that after the training, they would be helping the successful trainees land jobs in companies that they are in partnership with.

She said they are hoping to get 1,500 trainees since there is big number of demand for employment in the industry.

DepEd Cebu City Schools Division Superintendent Rhea Mar Angtud acknowledged the efforts of the Federation of PTA Inc. and the Call Center Academy.

She encouraged the applicants that if they get the training, they should take it seriously because it’s a good opportunity and the training would open a lot of doors for them. The program is also in partnership with The FREEMAN Newspaper, GMA-7 and other media outlets.  (FREEMAN)
