Habal-habal driver slain
CEBU, Philippines - A motorcycle-for-hire driver was shot dead while heading home last Thursday evening along the national road in Sitio Pangpang-akob, Barangay Valencia, Carcar City.
Frederick Pansit, 30, of Sitio Danao of the same barangay, succumbed to a gunshot wound to the back of the head.
He was declared dead on arrival at the Carcar City District Hospital where he was rushed by his sister Gladys Mae Pansit, 44.
Inspector Arvi Arbuis, deputy of the Carcar City Police Station, said that Gladys and Frederick were both on board a motorcycle heading home at that time.
Another motorcycle with two men on board was tailing them.
Upon reaching at a dim and curved portion of the road the other men drove closer to them and shot the victim.
According to Arbuis, Gladys said the man riding pillion still looked back at them as they were speeding off.
“Nilingi pa kuno nga mura’g nanigurado nga patay na gyud ang victim,” Arbuis said.
No evidence was recovered at the crime scene.
He added that Gladys asked for help from passersby but nobody seemed to hear her.
It was the police who took them to the hospital.
Arbuis said nobody could identify the culprits since both were wearing full-face helmets.
Gladys also said she saw the plate number of the getaway motorcycle but she cannot remember it.
The police are now locating the motorcycle drivers who passed by the area to check if they were able to notice the culprits. (FREEMAN)
