Gullas may run for Talisay mayor
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu First District Rep. Eduardo Gullas who is on his third and last term in Congress may run again as mayor of Talisay City in 2013.
“I would not say it’s not my option,” Gullas told reporters, adding, that he would have to undergo a “great deal of consultation” with the leaders of his political party before he makes a decision.
Gullas is president of Alayon, the local party of incumbent Talisay Mayor Socrates Fernandez, Vice Mayor Alan Bucao and majority of the city councilors.
Fernandez, being on his third term, is no longer illegible to run for mayor in next year’s midterm elections, fueling rumors that Gullas will be taking over the post.
Gullas was mayor of Talisay from 2001 to 2004 after serving three terms in Congress.
Bucao, a first-term vice mayor, earlier made known his intention for the mayorship. He said he is hoping that his party would make him the standard bearer.
Asked if there is a chance for the same to happen, Gullas merely said the decision, as it always has been, would come from the party leaders.
Commenting on reports that former Governor Lito Osmeña will also be running for mayor in Talisay, Gullas said in Cebuano, “the sun shines on everyone.”
Meanwhile, Gullas said leaders in the city would still want a Gullas in Congress in 2013, hence it is reportedly a choice between his son, Gerard Anthony “Didi” Gullas, and grandson, Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas. (FREEMAN)
