PWDs to receive CH financial assistance

CEBU, Philippines - More than 6,000 persons with disabilities who are accredited by the Cebu City government will receive financial assistance from the City Hall today.

Catherine Yso, head of the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS), said the DSWS and City Treasurers Office will distribute the P2,000 to each beneficiary at Plaza Sugbo and in other barangays starting at 8 a.m.

According to Yso, there are 6,718 PWDs who will receive financial assistance from the city government. She asked them to come early because the distribution will only end at 3 p.m.

However, those who failed to collect their financial assistance today can still claim it at the City Treasurer’s Office.

The financial assistance was supposed to be released last December, but the processing of the documents has been delayed since DSWS had to make sure that the names of those who already died have been deleted from the list.

Aside from Plaza Sugbo, the distribution of the financial assistance will also be held in the city’s 21 barangays.

City Hall officials advised the PWDs to coordinate with their barangay officials on where they can claim their financial assistance.

However, if a PWD is also a senior citizen who already received assistance from the city, he or she is no longer entitled to receive the benefits for the PWDs.  (FREEMAN)
