Medellin eyed as Cebu's "Golf Capital"

CEBU, Philippines - The town of Medellin is eyed to be the “Golf Capital of Cebu Province” as one more golf course will be put up in the said town.

Cebu Fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon said that this is one way of attracting tourists in the said municipality.

This is also in line with his pending bill at the Senate which seeks to declare the entire district as an eco-tourism zone.

Salimbangon said that Medellin also aims to be a retirement village for foreigners especially among Koreans.

Medellin already has the Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club.

Salimbangon said golfers like to play in as many courses as they can.

“So kung daghan ta og golf courses sa Medellin, I’m sure daghan gyud ang mangadto,” said the legislator. (So if we have many golf courses in Medellin, I’m sure many golfers would also visit.)

In line with this plan for the entire district to become an eco-zone, Salimbangon plans to ask automotive giant Norberto Quisumbing, shipping magnate Ernesto Aboitiz and diamond magnate Carlos Yeung as his council of advisers.

Salimbangon also plans to put up an airport in the town of Daan Bantayan, as the said infrastructure is necessary to complement the MEPZ-like economic zone that will be put up in its nearby town.

The Cebuano legislator hopes that this ambitious infrastructure project will be implemented before the end of his term. (FREEMAN)
