Garcia gets new vehicle worth P3M

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia announced yesterday that she will be getting her first new service vehicle after eight years in office.

A test unit of Nissan Safari, a luxury vehicle, was sent to the Capitol yesterday by the supplier. The office of the governor has an appropriation since 2004 when Garcia first assumed office to pay for the new vehicle amounting to P3.5 million.

Garcia has been using a Nissan Patrol bought sometime in 2002 during the time of her father, 2nd District Rep. Pablo Garcia, as governor.

The said service vehicle might be the oldest service vehicle the Capitol has since all the members of the Provincial Board and the department heads have new ones.

Garcia said there are those who already advised that the existing vehicle may no longer sturdy and safe.

“I intend to do more traveling this year because my time is limited. I want to double the time,” Garcia said referring to the nearing end of her term next year.

Garcia said that more traveling mean to include trips outside Cebu province aside from the out-of-town trip in the municipalities and cities.

On February 11, Garcia is invited by Puerto Princesa City Mayor Edward Hagedorn to talk about “Tourism: The Cebu Experience” during the 1st Tourism Summit.

Garcia said she will talk about the “Suroy-Suroy Sugbo”, the countryside tourism program of her administration.

In his letter, Hagedorn also thank Cebu’s support for the Puerto Princesa Underground River campaign making it to the New Seven Wonders of Nature.

On February 17, Garcia will attend the governor’s conference on the Visayan Sea Summit.

On March 3, Garcia will be in the Province of Bukidnon upon the invitation of the governor to enter a sisterhood tie between the two provinces.

Garcia said she also has standing invitation from the Cebu CFI Cooperative to be their guest speaker in their general assemblies in various parts in the Visayas.  (FREEMAN)
