CEBU, Philippines - A security guard who was about to go home was instead taken to a hospital after his companion accidentally fired his service shotgun a few minutes before midnight last Saturday at a restaurant along Fuentes St., Barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City.
Jorjilino Adlawan, 23, married and a native of Guihulngan, Negros Oriental sustained two gunshot wounds on both feet and was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital for medical treatment.
PO2 Carlos Barluado, of the Homicide Section of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, said that Adlawan was preparing to go home that evening and turned over the gun to his companion, Gilbert Catubig, 21, the incoming security guard.
Adlawan and Catubig are both from the Wolforce Security Agency and are assigned at the Red Coco Restaurant in the said barangay.
Barluado said that right after Adlawan handed the gun, Catubig was checking the firearm when it suddenly went off and hit Adlawan twice.
“Sa pagdawat tingale ni mura’g duna’y nasangkilan unya nibuto,” Barluado said. (When he received the firearm, he must have hit something which led to the gunfire.)
It was Catubig who assisted Adlawan to the hospital.
The police only recovered the shotgun which was used by Catubig. He was not detained.
Barluado said they still have to investigate the incident to check if the firearm has a license.
“Coordinate mi sa agency basin ug naa sila’y internal investigation nga himuon kay accidental ra man gyud kuno to,” he said.(We will coordinate with the agency. They may conduct an internal investigation even if they said it was purely accidental.)
Meanwhile, a man survived a deadly attack in Barangay Tayud, Consolacion at past 3 am yesterday while he was attending a fiesta celebration.
Rufino Bangcali, Jr., 37, was shot on the head by his neighbor Rastinel Pepito, 32, who almost hit the victim.
PO3 Allen Garciano of the Mandaue City Police Station said the incident happened while the victim was having a drinking session with his friends who are out-of-towners.
At the height of their drinking session, the apparently drunk suspect appeared and suddenly pulled out an undetermined caliber of firearm tucked on his waist, and shot the victim.
The victim, seeing the nozzle of the firearm aimed at him, was quick to crouch and seek cover. However, the bullet still grazed his head.
The suspect then ran away while the victim was rushed by his friends to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
The suspect surrendered to the police when he became sober. An attempted homicide case is now being filed against him. — (FREEMAN)
