CEBU, Philippines - Business tycoon and Metrobank Group chairman Dr. George S.K. Ty is leading the last leg of the nationwide distribution of “Bags of Blessing” on Saturday in Toledo City.
In what is described as a very rare opportunity, Ty will personally distribute food packages to selected families in the city.
Toledo City is one of the recipients of Ty’s nationwide endeavor to highlight his company’s celebration of the 2012 Chinese New Year.
Metrobank Group has donated a total of P10 million worth of food packages that benefit 10,000 underprivileged Filipino families based on the National Household Targeting System of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
It aims to support the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program including assistance to victims of natural calamities in the previous year.
Each family will receive P1,000 worth of food package that includes rice, canned goods, coffee, milk, noodles, sugar and snack pack for children.
The project is a collaboration of the subsidiaries and affiliates of the Metrobank Group composed of GT-Metro Foundation, Metrobank Foundation, Inc., Global Business Power, Federal Land Inc, and participating Metrobank branches in the region.
“This humble contribution is a reflection of our gratitude for our country and its people. The charities and public services are also a reminder that our hard work, thriftiness and discipline is not only for the sake of profits, but also to share with others and the whole community,” Dr. Ty said in a press statement sent to The FREEMAN.
Now on its second year, the “Bags of Blessing” program is given to indigent Filipino families by augmenting their basic needs through food packages. (FREEMAN)
