'Friendlier' police stations to be created in Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - Philippine National Police Director General Nicanor Bartolome is eyeing more tourist friendly police stations to be established in Cebu.

During his recent visit here, Bartolome announced that another project he will be embarking on is to make police stations “friendlier” to the public. This is reportedly in line with reports that the Philippines is the eighth friendliest country in the world.

One way to do this is to find police stations that can be converted into tourist police stations, he said.

“Dapat dito marami sa Cebu sapagkat friendly ang mga tao rito,” Bartolome said.

One tourism project he admires, Bartolome said, is the Suroy-Suroy Sugbo of the provincial government, which he reportedly saw being featured on the travel channel, Travel Asia.

What he noticed about Cebu, he said, is that it is one island that features different cultures and culinary specialties.

“That something to be proud of that heritage, nakita ko kakaiba yong Cebu,” Bartolome said.

Recently, Bartolome led the groundbreaking ceremony of the PNP hospital inside Camp Sotero Cabahug and inaugurated the new Criminal Investigation and Detection Group’s Digital Forensic Laboratory and office in Cebu.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, for her part, assured the PNP that the provincial government will always support the police in efforts that can improve the province.    - (THE FREEMAN)
