Boy accused of rape, hangs self

CEBU, Philippines - A 15-year-old student accused of raping his girlfriend was found dead Wednesday evening hanging in a shanty at the middle of a rice field in Barangay Calajo-an, Minglanilla.

Clarence Lauron Niadas, a 2nd year high school student of Tulay National High School, was found by his neighbor Bretty Larrobis at past 10:00 pm with a nylon rope tied around his neck.

The police found a suicide note near Niadas’ suspended body. The boy thanked his cousins and the team Boracay. He also asked his parents to take care of his other siblings.

“Ako ni gibuhat kay wa nako kasabot… love kaayo ta mo magbantay nako ninyo…,” the alleged suicide note reads.

SPO1 Renato Masangkay said Niadas could have been prompted to commit suicide because of the complaint filed by the parents of his 14-year-old girlfriend accusing him of rape. Niadas and the alleged rape victim are schoolmates.

Masangkay said the parents of the girl filed a complaint against Niadas last Tuesday after seeing kiss marks on their daughter’s neck.

The girl allegedly admitted that she and Niadas were lovers but denied she was raped. Despite the girl’s denial, the parents were allegedly persistent to file a complaint against Niadas.

“Bisan kinsa na man siguro nga ginikanan dili sad ganahan maingon ana ang anak,” Masangkay said.

Masangkay surmised that Niadas may have been ashamed of what had happened prompting him to commit suicide. — (FREEMAN)
