Pregnant woman commits suicide

- Niña G. Sumacot-Abenoja -

CEBU, Philippines - A 20-year-old pregnant woman was found hanging dead inside a room in Barangay Valencia , Carcar City last Friday.

Police investigation revealed that the pregnant Myrna Bacaro committed suicide by hanging herself using a nylon rope. Marsan Jimenez, 21, who discovered the body at 2 am last Friday said his live in partner Bacaro was three months pregnant.   PO2 Rosendo Binondo of Carcar City Police Station said Jimenez believed that jealousy prompted the victim to kill herself.

Jimenez told the police that he and Bacaro had a heated argument the previous night because she thought he was having an affair with another woman.

“Mao’y istorya ni Marsan na nagkalalis sila kay nagselos ang babaye,” he said.

Jimenez later slept and was awakened around 2 am only to discover his live-in-partner hanging dead right in front of him. The victim’s feet, Binondo said, barely touched the floor.

“Dali ra nakatikang ang biktima kay naa may portion duol sa ilang pultahan na matikangan,” the police officer said.

The other end of the rope was tied on the beam at the ceiling of the couple’s bedroom. The couple, since Bacaro got pregnant, has been living at the house of Jimenez’s parents, Binondo said.

Shocked, Jimenez rushed to his parent’s room and asked for help. His father went to their room and slashed the rope to possibly revive the victim but she was already dead. An autopsy was conducted on the victim’s body.

Binondo said Bacaro’s parents did not manifest interest to press charges against Jimenez as they have already accepted that there was no foul play on their daughters’ death. The victim is sixth among her siblings.  (FREEMAN)
