CEBU, Philippines - An inmate of the Cebu provincial jail surrendered to authorities last Friday, two days after he escaped from his escort after attending a court hearing in Bogo City.
Kim Inbento, who had injuries all over his feet, surrendered to Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center warden Alger Comendador at 2 pm last Friday.
The inmate was accompanied by his father and his uncle, who is the barangay captain of Barangay Lamintak Sur, Medellin, where he escaped last Wednesday noon.
Cebu Capitol security consultant Cesar Veloso, in an interview with The FREEMAN, said Comendador received surrender feelers from the escapee.
Veloso said the suspect was prompted to surrender because he found it hard hiding from the authorities.
He was also convinced by the barangay captain to surrender.
When Inbento escaped from Jail Officer 1 Felix Betasalo, he hid in a rocky portion at the seashore. Several barnacles on the rocks injured his feet, Veloso said.
“Puros samad iyang tiil tungod sa sisi,” he said.
As part of due process, Veloso said Inbento was given medical treatment before he was brought back to the CPDRC jail.
Inbento was placed in an isolation cell, Veloso said. Meanwhile, Betasalo is currently on a floating status following the suspect’s escape, Veloso said.
Inbento, who is charged with murder, made a dash for freedom while Betasalo was answering the “call of nature.”
They just attended a court hearing in Bogo City when the suspect requested Betasalo to have him visit his family in Lamintak Sur, to which the jail officer agreed and escorted him.
When they reached the place, the suspect played with his fighting cocks. When the jail officer went to answer the call of nature, it was at this point when the suspect escaped. (FREEMAN)
