CEBU, Philippines - A man committed suicide last Sunday evening in Sitio Lower Linao, Barangay Lipata, Minglanilla town, after allegedly feeling depressed for failing as a father.
Police said 37-year-old Anthony Pastor was found by his 10-year-old-son hanging lifeless at the door of a room and with a nylon rope looped around his neck.
Pastor was last seen by his neighbors buying two bottles of beer while fetching water about 4:30 p.m.
Police said none of the family members were able to stop him because they were not around when he hung himself.
A week ago he sent a text to one of his three children that read “Sori kaayo dong kahibaw ko nasuko ka nako bisan wala ka musulti kay wala ko’y ayo pagka-amahan wala ko kaatiman ninyo og tarong, ayaw pasagdi imong mama ug igsuon maypa maghikog na lang ko.”
PO1 Shiela Pagatong said Pastor was jobless and depression could have been the reason why he committed suicide based also on the text message his 10-year-old son received.
“Wala man sad sila ingon nga nag-away sa asawa, problemado lang gyud,” Pagatong said.
The suicide victim’s wife, Jesusa Pastor, 40, was convinced there was no foul play in the death of her husband.
The victim’s body was taken to the Holy Spirit Funeral Homes in Barangay Poblacion for proper disposition. - THE FREEMAN
