CEBU, Philippines - Local members of the ruling Liberal Party is pushing for the political tandem of former Cebu City councilor Hilario Davide, III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale in the 2013 elections.
LP members in Cebu describe the tandem as “formidable” either way.
Provincial Board Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy said that LP members in Cebu have agreed among themselves to push the Davide-Magpale tandem in the province for 2013 elections.
“Cebu will be a better Cebu with the two at the helm of the provincial government,” Sitoy told The FREEMAN.
Magpale, however, is not a member of LP. She has a local party Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud). Davide on the other hand is currently the provincial chairman of LP. He ran but lost to Governor Gwendolyn Garcia of the One Cebu Party in the last elections.
But Magpale admitted that the development is “heart-fattening.”
“Salamat kaayo Boss Arleigh sa imong pagsalig. Bisan unsay mahitabo ipasalig ko kanimo nga dili mapakyas ang imong gipakitang pagsalig kanako,” Magpale said.
Magpale assured wherever she will be, she will render same kind of servant leadership that she always practice since she started out in government.
“I am really humbled with all these praises, I never thought I would even get this far, all I really wanted is to give my best,” Magpale said.
PB Member Thadeo Ouano, a member of the Nacionalista Party and a political ally of Garcia, said he prefers Magpale for governor.
“Wa pa may lain nadunggan nato, I go for Agnes for governor,” Ouano said.
One Cebu Party has yet to name possible candidate for governor in 2013 elections.
Consolacion Mayor Teresa Alegado also supports the Davide-Magpale tandem.
“That has always been the dream of Cebu nga naa ta’y tandem ba nga lain-lain, usa sa south, usa sa north. With the chemistry, dili imposibli nga mabuhat ang damgo sa katawhan,” she said.
Magpale has been visible around the province since she assumed office. She has been in the provincial government as board member for quite a long period of time.
Magpale also pays tribute to the PB members for supporting her since she assumed the vice governorship following the death of the late vice governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. —(FREEMAN)
