Son of murdered Japanese offers P50,000 reward

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The son of the 76-year-old Japanese who was robbed and killed inside his rented house in KB Homes in Lapu-Lapu City last July 12 is offering a P50,000 reward for the capture of his father’s perpetrator.

Lawyer Vicente E. Fernandez II, counsel of Kazuyoshi Ukena, said the reward will go to anyone who can give information for the arrest of Nerio Corvera who is currently facing robbery with homicide charges.

Judge Toribio Quiwag, Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court in Lapu-Lapu City, has issued a warrant for Corvera’s arrest and recommended no bail for his temporary liberty.

Fernandez said the son of the slain Takao Ukena is hoping that the arrest of the suspect will be faster with the reward and his father would be finally given justice.

Corvera is reportedly a carperter who worked at the same area where the victim used to stay.

The older Ukena was found dead inside his rented house with an open wound on his forehead and an electrical cord tied around his neck. The victim’s Nokia 1200 phone, Automated Teller Machine card and P7,000 pocket money were missing.

The son said his father’s ATM card constantly contained P40,000 as monthly deposit.

The Medico-Legal Report No. M-170-20111 issued by Dr. Nestor Sator showed that the victim died of “asphysia by strangulation.”

In her affidavit, Charissa Seloterio Bornea, a stay-in house help of the victim’s neighbor, said she was surprised and frightened when she saw Corvera inside the living room of the house where she and the two children of her employers slept.

When asked how he was able to enter the house, Corvera reportedly just went of the room without saying a word and exited the house by entering another bedroom with an exit door.

Bornea said she later saw Corvera climb over the concrete perimeter fence and jump into grounds of the victim’s rented house. She reportedly saw the suspect do something with the door knob and eventually opened the door and entered the house.

In a separate affidavit, Judito Sungcad Faunillan, security guard of Eversafe Security Agency assigned to guard KB Homes, said he saw Corvera coming out of the victim’s grounds through the Golden Gerantan plants that served as perimeter fence.

In her resolution, Assistant City Prosecutor Geronima Baring said Corvera did not submit evidence to controvert the allegations against him, hence, the case is resolved on the basis of the evidence presented by the complainant, which merits the filing of appropriate charges against Corvera in court.  (FREEMAN)
