Korean association lauds Cebu's peace and order

- Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon -

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Korean Association Inc. is all praises for Cebu for being peaceful and practically has everything to offer.

This is the reason why Cebu is the most preferred destination among Koreans, said Charlie Shin, vice president of the Korean association here.

Shin said several government officials from Korea will be in Cebu for a tour on January 9.

"Cebu is very popular in Korea. Everybody in Korea is curious about Cebu. Cebu has everything. It has beautiful beaches, nice hotels and the people are very nice," Shin said.

According to him, the direct flights from Cebu to Korea and vice versa for the past eleven years have added interest for the Koreans to study and tour here. Shin said, at present, there are at least 1,500 Koreans coming to Cebu with nine flights everyday.

To date, Shin said there are over 15,000 Koreans in Cebu either living permanently or studying.

One of the biggest Korean investors in Cebu is the Korean Power Corporation which owns the recently inaugurated power plant in the City of Naga.

The association plans to donate several police outposts in the city of Lapulapu as well as to donate several equipment for "tourist police" before the end of the year.

In the meantime, Shin said that this Friday, the association with over 2,000 registered Korean members will be donating kitchen utensils, blankets, among others to 2,000 families who were victims of typhoon Sendong in Dumaguete and in Iligan.

In coordination with the regional police, Shin said that he will personally deliver the donation.–(FREEMAN)
