Fire razes rest house in Alcantara

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines - A morning fire razed a rest house in Barangay Cabil-isan in the western town of Alcantara last Wednesday. Damage was estimated at P1.5 million.

The two-storey rest house was the property of David and Veronica Summer who are now living in Australia. It was reportedly made out light materials.

The couple reportedly left the house to Veronica’s brother Antideo Salaysay who also served as the caretaker of the house.

Salaysay alleged that he was attending to his farm a few meters away from the house and returned about 9am when he noticed that the fire was already beginning to eat up the ceiling of the first floor.

Salaysay said he quickly called the police and the Municipal Fire Station but since the house was made of light materials, the fire reportedly spread quickly to the second floor.

The fire had razed the house when firefighters arrived. Initial investigation revealed that the fire started at the circuit breaker.

No one was hurt in the incident. (FREEMAN)
