CEBU, Philippines - The City Traffic Operations Management told the Cebu City Council that they are against letting officials of Barangay San Roque park their service vehicles beside the road or on sidewalks near their barangay hall along Arellano Blvd.
CITOM Executive Officer Rafael Christopher Yap sent a letter to the City Council saying that “as far as traffic is concerned, parking on the sidewalk or a portion thereof is strictly prohibited under the existing City Ordinance 801 or the Traffic Ordinance of the City of Cebu.”
The Barangay San Roque council, under Barangay Captain Rogelio Ruizo, is presently constructing their new multi-purpose building and requested the Cebu City government to exempt them from the requirement of parking area for vehicles.
The existing city ordinance of Cebu City requires newly-constructed buildings to have a parking area so its occupants or tenants will not park on the road.
The Department of Public Works and Highways has spent millions of pesos to restore the original width of Arellano Blvd. and have it concreted to help minimize the traffic along McArthur Blvd., now Sergio Osmeña Ave.
Some traffic enforcers shared the view of Yap because if the officials of San Roque are allowed to just park their vehicles on the road it may encourage other motorists to follow their example. (FREEMAN)
