CEBU, Philippines - A woman died after she was hit by a speeding vehicle while she and her daughter were walking along the national highway in Barangay Daanlungsod, Medellin town late afternoon last Sunday.
The victim, Cherry Noynay, sustained serious injuries on different parts of her body.
She was first taken to the Severo Verallo District Hospital, but had to be transferred to the Don Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City owing to the seriousness of her condition. She was, however, declared dead on arrival at VSMMC.
A physician at SVDH said Noynay’s baby girl is safe. She was carrying the baby at the time of the incident but the baby was thrown away when Noynay was hit by the vehicle. The child had been turned over to her grandparents.
Police yesterday filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against British national Richard Horton, 65, also a resident of Barangay Daanlungsod.
PO2 Rolan Robin of the Medellin Police Station said Horton was traveling north on board his KIA Sportage with plate number YDL-507 when he hit the victim. He, however, sped away after hitting Noynay.
Police traced the vehicle through the broken pieces of its headlight found at the scene.
Horton said he was heading home at that time and did not notice he had hit Noynay. (FREEMAN)
