LTO conducts random drug tests
CEBU, Philippines - None of the 100 bus drivers in Cebu were found positive of using illegal drugs after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) - 7 and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) conducted a random drug testing in line with “Oplan Ligtas na Krismas” project of the Department of Transportation and Communications.
LTO-7 Regional Director Raul Aguilos said the drug testing was done to assure passengers of safe travel especially during this season of Christmas.
The DOTC project is part of their action plan to ensure a convenient, safe and affordable travel for people who will go around the country this Christmas season.
The implementation of the program is in anticipation of an increase in the volume of passengers this season of Christmas.
Aguilos advises passengers to travel light and bring water.
He also urged passengers to report to LTO any abusive or arrogant drivers as well as to report reckless drivers at their hotline at 2563766 or 2543122.
LTO-7 has also conducted roadworthiness tests and lectures in road safety at identified bus terminals, starting with the Cebu South Bus Terminal.
Aguilos added that LTO traffic enforcers and their partners are intensifying their campaign against traffic law violators. (FREEMAN)
