Woman shoots self dead

CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old woman shot herself dead inside their house in Sitio Segra, Barangay Buanoy, Balamban yesterday morning.

Irish Tagpuno Olbinaryo reportedly turned a .45 caliber pistol on herself inside the room of her younger sister around 6 a.m. She sustained a gunshot wound to her right temple and was killed on the spot.

Olbinaryo’s family is still clueless on her suicide since no one had seen any reason that would drive her to end her life.

SPO1 Jose Villarino, Balamban police chief, said Olbinaryo’s younger sister, Sue, 18, heard a gunshot coming from her room. When she rushed to her room, she found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

Villarino said that Olbinaryo was lying inside a blanket holding a .45 pistol, which was still loaded with two bullets. Police recovered an empty shell of .45 caliber pistol.

Sue, Villarino said, was nearing home from attending Misa de Gallo when she heard a gunshot, prompting her to rush inside their house.

“Wala man kuno’y dakong hinungdan nga kinahanglan siya maghikog,” Villarino said.

He said Olbinaryo had twice attempted to commit suicide before. She reportedly took a bladed weapon and tried to slash her pulse but was caught by her family.

“Bisan kuno og personal nga problema ug kanang makasab-an siya hinuon di man gyud na malikayan mosulti dayon na siya og hikog,” Villarino said.

Olbinaryo’s family was convinced that there was no foul play behind her death but the police will still subject her cadaver to an autopsy. — (FREEMAN)
