Woman flees from robber cabbie
CEBU, Philippines - A saleslady who was robbed by the driver of a taxi she got in was able to escape by jumping out of the moving vehicle in the North Reclamation Area, Cebu City, last Wednesday night.
Anecita Auman, 26, of Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City, went to the Cebu City Police Office Theft and Robbery Section still in shock after she was robbed inside a cab last Wednesday around 10:30 p.m.
Auman said she just left her afternoon shift at a mall and flagged down a cab to take her home.
But as soon as she was in the vehicle the taxi driver reportedly pulled out a gun and declared a holdup.
He also forced her to transfer to the front passenger seat beside him.
“Mao pa gali akong pag-lingkod gitiunan dayon ko niya og pusil,” she said.
The driver immediately demanded her cash and belongings.
Auman offered to give him P300 but after the driver insisted it was not enough and she had to hand over all her money amounting to P1,800 as well as her cellular phone.
“At first, P300 ra ako gihatag, but iya man ko gihulga mao nga ako gihatag akong P1,500,” she said.
After giving everything over she appealed to the driver to be released, but the driver insisted on taking her home.
This reportedly terrified her which prompted her to try to disarm the driver even as he was driving.
In the middle of their struggle, the driver dropped the gun. With the robber disarmed and the cab slowing down she opened the door and jumped off, rolling on the pavement a few times.
Police are now looking for the driver after the victim was able to remember the company the taxi belonged to. The name of the company is being withheld pending follow-up investigation.
The victim has also positively identified a photo of the driver.
In another incident, Jack Daniel Ombid, 24, of Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City, was stabbed several times after he fought back at a man who tried to rob him yesterday dawn.
Ombid was about to board a taxi along Pelaez Extension, Barangay Cogon Ramos, around 12:45 a.m. when a robber tried to snatch his bag.
When Ombid fought back, the robber pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim on the left shoulder, left armpit and back.
The assailant immediately fled without his loot.
Though bloodied, Ombid managed to seek help from the police who brought him to the St. Vincent Hospital where he is currently recuperating. — (FREEMAN)
