CEBU, Philippines - A college student was robbed and hogtied in reverse at a dormitory and pension house located along Pelaez Extension dawn yesterday.
The victim was identified as Cecilio Lasala, 18, a native of Siargao, Surigao del Norte. The suspects, reportedly a couple, rented a room at the dormitory for three days since December 2.
Police said Lasala went up the second floor around 2am to connect to the wireless internet through his mobile phone. While surfing the Internet through his phone, the suspects appeared and pulled him forcibly in a nearby room. Once inside, the suspect reportedly turned the volume of the television high to stifle the other sounds. They then took away Lasala’s Samsung Galaxy phone, tied his hands to his legs, and left the building.
Before leaving, they reportedly warned Lasala that he would be killed if he would shout for help. Fearing for his life, Lasala heeded the warning for over an hour and it was only when he noticed that the suspect would no longer return that he started shouting for help.
One of the tenants eventually heard the shouts and sought help from the police. It was the police who opened the room where the victim was.
“Kining biktima, ning gamit ra ni siya ug wi-fi connection sa second floor dapit sa hagdanan. Ang hagdanan kay duol raman sa kwarto sa mga suspect,” said PO1 Roger Castillo of the Parian Police Station.
Castillo said Lasala’s hands were tied to his lower thigh like hogtie in reverse, which made it hard for him to move.
The room where Lasala was held was under the name of a certain “Gailleh.” The dormitory guard reportedly did not see the suspects leave that day.
“Nagtuo ang guard nga na-a ra’y kuwa-on og mo-balik ra ang mga tulisan.” Castillo said. (FREEMAN)
