2 men shot dead

CEBU, Philippines - An alleged ex-convict was shot dead while a man was also killed in a separate incident in Cebu last Saturday.

Adonis Amaquin, of legal age and an alleged ex-convict, was shot dead by two men riding in pillion on a motorcycle in Barangay Central Biasong, Talisay City.

Prior to the incident, the victim had a drinking session with his friends at the store of the chief tanod Eddie Naranjo. Afterwhich, he rode on his trisikad with his friend Loreto Traya, 43, as his passenger.

They were heading towards Traya’s home when two men riding on a motorcycle appeared and suddenly shot the victim.

One of the suspects was described to be about 30 years old while the other one about 18.

Amaquin slumped to the ground with gunshot wounds on his head while the assailants sped off.

The Talisay Rescue Emergency Action Team responded to the crime scene to supposedly rush the victim to the hospital but he was already dead when they arrived.

PO2 Roy Lofranco of Talisay City Police Station said that one of the motives they are looking into is love triangle because the victim is allegedly having an affair with a married woman.

The woman was allegedly seen drinking with the victim in the said place before.

Lofranco is also not discounting the possibility that personal grudge may be the motive. A friend of the victim said the latter was an ex-convict but the police are still verifying this.

Meanwhile, a 23-year-old man was also shot dead in an alleged case of mistaken identity in Barangay Kinasang-an, Cebu City shortly before midnight yesterday.

The victim was identified as Chester Aldaya, a refrigerator technician, while the suspect was only identified as a certain Rene alias Insik, who was with two male cohorts. The suspects are believed to be residents of sitio Suran of the same barangay.

The victim’s father, Joel Aldaya, 48, revealed that the victim was with his girlfriend, a certain Aiza, sitting at the roadside in South Road, Kinasang-an Proper, when the assailants, armed with unknown caliber of firearms, appeared and approached them.

The assailants shot the victim on the leg.

Wounded, the victim tried to run to evade further attacks but he was chased and was shot again twice.

He stumbled to the ground while the assailants left.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed by Joel to the Cebu City Medical Center but doctors declared him dead.

PO3 Geoffrey Gutual of the Homicide Section said that based on the allegations of the victim’s brother, Chester was allegedly mistaken for a gang member.

The assailants, Gutual said, are members of a notorious gang in the city. He said they will invite the victim’s girlfriend to possibly identify the perpetrators. — (FREEMAN)
