2 shot in Cebu City
CEBU, Philippines - Two men were gunned down in two shooting incidents in Cebu City Friday night.
Reynaldo Sabellano, 33, of J. Tabura Street, Barangay Pardo; and Reynante Famador, 42, of Barangay Pit-os were gunned down yesterday in two separate attacks by three unknown assailants.
Sabellano, who was sitting on a chair at the side of the road across their house, sustained gunshot wounds on his chest and face after a gunman onboard a motorcycle, opened fire at him at around 7:30 p.m.
The victim died on the spot, slumped bloodied on the sidewalk while the gunman sped off towards F. Jaca Street of the said barangay.
The gunman was described to be a chubby man in his mid 40s. He shot the victim at close range.
Elements of the Emergency Recue Unit Foundation (ERUF) declared Sabellano already dead when they arrived to attend to his severe wounds.
Cebu City Police Office homicide investigator PO2 Witzel Berry told The FREEMAN that Sabellano had often caused trouble. “Badlungon kuno ni siya sa ilang lugar,” he said.
He said that the attack might be because of personal grudge after the victim was involved in several problems in their barangay. “Tingali’g, ang nagpusil niya, na enkwetro ni niya ug gi-balikan ra siya,” he said.
A deformed slug and an empty shell apparently from a caliber .45 pistol was recovered at the crime scene.
Roughly three hours later, Famador was shot by another unidentified gunman while walking along Upper Centro of their barangay at around 10:15 p.m.
Investigators said that the victim was walking on the said place with an unknown companion when an armed person suddenly opened fire.
Famador’s companion scampered for safety while he fell on the ground bloodied. His assailant fled on foot.
The victim sustained gunshot sounds on his chest and on the back portion of his body. He was taken by the ERUF to the North General Hospital where he died.
Elements from the Talamban Police Station immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation but to no avail.
Berry, who also investigated the incident, said that they currently have no lead on the motive behind the killing. “Wala gyud kuno ni siya’y atraso ug kontra sa lugar,” he said. (FREEMAN)
