CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Government is urging the public to shop in Carbon Market for their needs this Christmas to avail of the discounts and promos starting Monday.
This is part of the 6th Pasko sa Carbon that seeks to bring more life to Carbon Market, the mother of all markets in the City. Pasko sa Carbon will also have Misa de Gallo from December 16 to 24.
Market Administrator Racquel Arce said that they are encouraging the public to visit the Carbon Market to buy goods and supplies because they can save up to 30 percent compared to what they will be paying in supermarkets.
“Kung nangita sila og palaliton nga barato, presko, lab-as, nindot ang quality ug resonable ang presyo, giawhag nato ang katawhan na muadto gyud sa Carbon,” Arce said.
Antonio Piloton, Chairman of the Cebu Market Vendors Development Cooperative, said the practice of the “suki system” and “hangyo” are the things you can’t enjoy in supermarkets.
Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Filomeno Lim, whose shop is in Carbon, said that people should not look for cheap goods because these are usually of bad quality. However, he assured that Carbon Markets fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and other foods are of good quality because they are fresh compared to frozen products sold in supermarkets.
Sponsors of the Pasko sa Carbon will also provide free samples to those who will attend the midnight Mass.
Meanwhile, members of Cemvedco said they might just raise funds for the construction of the Carbon Market Unit 2 if the city government will not provide the funds for its construction.
The P100 million budget was proposed under Supplemental Budget No. 2 but rejected and is being proposed anew under the 2012 Annual Budget is uncertain yet. Piloton said the city government assured them it will be funded by the government so if they will look for other sources, their 13 years of waiting might be delayed longer. (FREEMAN)
