CEBU, Philippines - Policemen in Central Visayas led by Police Regional Office director Marcelo Garbo will join the Cebu leg of the Takbo Maharlika on January.
Takbo Maharlika leaders - Father Carmelo Diola, head steward of the Dilaab Foundation and retired general Samson Tucay - oriented the police about the run which aims to unite the Filipinos by running the entire stretch of the 2,888-kilometer Maharlika Highway.
“The event has the potential to unite people with the symbolism of connecting the whole nation with treads, for example, running steps across the breadth and scope of the Philippine archipelago,” Diola said.
Diola said the Cebu leg will start on January which Garbo and other police officials who attended the recent forum committed to join.
Garbo, who has wished to bike through Cebu’s Tops, said it is only through trials that a person can measure who he is, so he is joining the Takbo Maharlika run, Cebu leg.
Police directors of the police offices of Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu, and the Cebu Province attended the forum, including the deputies and precinct commanders of the police stations.
If somebody would ask about the contribution of running, Diola, said, “May mangyayari sa pagtatakbo-takbo at pagdarasal.” He even encouraged the policemen and other runners to make running as a foundation of being a good citizen.
Unlike other runners, Diola said they have two dimension of running: the takbo palabas, or the thing whish is observable, and takbo paloob, or their advocacy.
The first step taken under Takbo Maharlika was launched on August 8 in Laoag City, traversing through Eastern Visayas, and ending in Zamboanga City on April.
The run also calls on Filipinos to pray for the nation, Diola said. — (FREEMAN)
