GSO told to make sure City Hall vehicles are registered in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City officials have decided not to accept suppliers of vehicles if the registration will be done in other areas, particularly in Mindanao, because of their experience that they could not renew the registration of vehicles purchased during the past administration.
City Hall General Service Office (GSO) head Rolly Ardoza said the second hand and refurbished buses that were distributed to the mountain barangays of the south district before the 2010 elections were purchased from Pasahero Motors but these were registered in Mindanao.
According to Ardoza, when the City Hall applied for the renewal of its registration documents before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Cebu City, their applications were rejected because the registration records that were reportedly made in Mindanao could not be retrieved from its network.
Ardoza said the City Hall’s Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) should be stricter in choosing suppliers of vehicles for the City.
The Cebu City Government plans to buy several vehicles and other equipment next year.
The GSO head was questioned by city legislators, who observed that the registrations of some of the city’s vehicles are not renewed but are still being used by the barangays.
There were 15 mountain barangays of the city’s south district that were given refurbished buses.
The City Council advised Ardoza to call the attention of the concerned supplier to assist the city in the renewal of the vehicle’s registration.
The registrations of the vehicles in Mindanao were genuine but the LTO office concerned is still not connected to the computer network of the agency, this is why the records cannot be retrieved in the on-line service.
Some of the councilors express concern on the continued use of vehicles despite the absence of registration and insurance. – (FREEMAN)
