CEBU, Philippines - Residents along the National Highway of Barangay Arpili, Balamban town, were awakened shortly before 1 a.m. last Sunday by the sound of two motorcycles crashing into each other.
Both drivers were killed while their passengers riding pillion suffered injuries after they were thrown to the pavement when the motorcycles collided.
The fatalities were Dario Tabor, 33, of Barangay Abucayan who was driving his Honda XRM motorcycle with license plate numbers YQ-3201 and Boylet Abarrido, 21, of Sitio Casili of the same barangay, who was also on his Kawasaki Fury with license plate numbers 6828-YZ.
Tabor’s passenger Jerome Idemni, 16, and Abarrido’s passenger, a certain “Jean” of Asturias town, suffered several injuries and were taken to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.
PO1 Godofredo Dumdum said that Abarrido was heading to Barangay Buanoy and overtook another motorcycle, failing to notice Tabor who was heading to Toledo City.
Dumdum said Tabor’s bike also did not have headlights, causing both motorcycles to collide.
“Ang Honda wa’y headlight daan so dili gyud makita nga nag-paingon na diay,” he said.
A bystander who happened to pass by the area suspected that Tabor was drunk as he was zigzagging before he hit the Fury.
Policemen detailed at Barangay Matab-ang, Toledo City immediately responded to the incident and brought the victims to the hospital.
Barangay Matab-ang is Toledo’s boundary with Balamban.
Both deceased are now at the Gemma Funeral Homes in Balamban. (FREEMAN)
