Teacher hangs self in friend's room

CEBU, Philippines - A high school teacher ended his own life by hanging himself inside the rented room of his friend in Barangay Tugbungan, Consolacion town last Sunday night.

The teacher was identified as Marlon Sadornia, 29, of Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City. He was teaching at the Marigondon National High School prior to his death.

PO2 Johnaskie Romero of the Consolacion Police Station said Sadornia used a dog chain to tie around his neck. Sadornia’s friend, John Pons Tiu, said Sadornia went to his rented room last Saturday evening and asked that he drink with him. Noticing that Sadornia looked depressed, Tiu asked him what was wrong to which Sadornia answered that he saw his girlfriend with another man.

“Ingon siya nga iyang uyab nakit-an niya naay kuyog laing laki,” Tiu said.

Tiu said that because he had to go to work the next day, he left Sadornia at his room early morning on Sunday. When he arrived around 6:30 pm, he was surprised that the room was locked from the inside, but the lights were off. He then asked his landlord Salvador Casinillo to open the door.

When the door was opened, they saw Sadornia already hanging lifeless from the ceiling.

Police are still investigating the real cause of the suicide, but one theory they are looking into is depression caused by the failed relationship.

Sadornia’s family, however, suspects foul play because the check worth P60,000 Sadornia brought with him had disappeared and contusion was found on the back of his body. The family said Sadornia was supposed to use the money to buy a motorcycle.

The police then advised the family to have Sadornia’s remains undergo an autopsy to clarify matters. Sadornia’s remains now lie at the Maturan Funeral Parlor in Liloan. (FREEMAN)
