CEBU, Philippines - A man shot himself while policemen were looking for him in Cordova town for allegedly killing another man in Cebu City last Saturday night.
The man was identified as Allan Sinugbohan, 30, nephew of former Cordova Vice mayor Danilo Sinugbohan. Allan was accused of shooting to death Archie Ygot, 26, in what was said to be a case of love triangle. The incident happened in Barangay Talamban, Cebu City past 7pm last Saturday.
Policemen of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office led by SPO4 Alex Dacua then proceeded to Cordova for a hot pursuit operation against Allan.
They proceeded to Sinugbohan’s house in Barangay Gabi together with Sinugbohan’s former girlfriend Daisybeth Climaco and barangay captain Jesus Arcilla.
Dacua said they were negotiating with Sinugbohan’s parents for his arrest when a burst of gunfire went off at the backyard. There, they found Sinugbohan sprawled on the ground with a gunshot wound on his head.
Dacua said Sinugbohan might have sensed their presence and was prompted to shoot himself.
A caliber .375 revolver with two live ammunition and three live ammunition of a caliber .38 revolver were found in both Sinugbohan’s hands.
He was rushed to the Mactan Doctors Hospital and remained critical as of yesterday.
Investigation showed that prior to the incident, Ygot visited Climaco in Nasipit, Talamban. He was shot just as he went out of Climaco’s boarding house.
Climaco, a certain Quiroy Galleon, and other residents near the place said they saw Sinugbohan leaving the place.
Ygot was rushed to the Vicente Gullas Hospital in the neighboring Barangay Banilad but succumbed to the wound on his right chest. The bullet reportedly exited through his armpit.
An empty shell and a deformed slug of a caliber .357 were recovered from the crime scene. Red flowers with red ribbons, which police said Ygot brought for Climaco, were also found at the crime scene.
The gun was submitted to a ballistic test while Sinugbohan will be subjected to a paraffin test.
