CEBU, Philippines - A 19-year-old girl died while her male companion who is believed to be her boyfriend, survived from a vehicular accident which occurred along Barangay Bugas in the town of Badian last Friday.
Marie Cassey Aguirre died due to a severe head injury while her companion Deogracias Avila III, 21, survived with a foot injury.
Investigation showed that Avila, a registered nurse, was driving a black Toyota Revo SUV bearing plate numbers GRD-993, with Aguirre at the front seat when the accident happened.
Avila was traversing along sitio Dapdap at 2 pm when he encountered a sharp left curve.
The two came from Ginatilan which is the hometown of Aguirre who works and temporarily resides with her aunt in Apas, Cebu City.
Allegedly speeding, Avila was not able to immediately maneuver to the left and continued to drive straight then crashed into a rock at the right side of the road.
The rock severely damaged the right front portion of the car. Aguirre’s head was also badly injured after it was reportedly hit with a hard object.
Concerned citizens rushed the two to the Badian District Hospital where Aguirre was declared dead on arrival. Later at 10 pm, Avila was transferred to the Cebu Doctors’ Hospital here in Cebu City.
The car was towed towards the police station where it is currently impounded.
PO1 Mauro Gramatica, Jr. of Badian Police Station said they are waiting for the decision of Aguirre’s parents whether or not to file charges against the surviving victim. (FREEMAN)
