CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Coalition for Food Security has declared the late vice governor Gregorio G. Sanchez Jr. as patron for natural agriculture.
Various groups of farmers, fishermen, urban poor and Liberal Party members joined the unveiling of the late vice governor’s frame at the hall of fame of the training hall of the Pagtambayayong Foundation Inc. at P. Del Rosario Extension, Cebu City.
Sanchez was an active participant in the activities promoting organic farming. He produced and marketed pro-biotic, vermi-compost and other organic inputs that restore the soil to its original state.
He was also one of the developers of the health drink LactoPafi in 2002.
Engr. Grecilda Sanchez-Zaballero, Sanchez’s eldest daughter, received a framed photo of him during the award ceremonies.
“I didn’t expect this. I was really touched and humbled because even though my Dad already passed away, there are still a lot of people who continue to love and remember him and who wish that he was still around,” Gigi said.
Gigi added that she has since been part of the movement advocating organic farming.
A memorial hall for the late vice governor is set to be opened at the Pagtambayayong Office.
“He deserves this recognition for being the pioneer of organic farming in Cebu and this will allow people to remember him” said Bimbo Fernandez, the coalition’s honorary chairperson and former Cebu City administrator.
Meanwhile, another farmer, the late Paskie Tabuac, was also awarded in the same ceremony. (FREEMAN)
