Red assures no violence in Danao

CEBU, Philippines -  Cebu Fifth District Rep. Ramon “Red” Durano VI has assured that no violence will erupt in Danao City with the political feud between his father, Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III and uncle, Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano, Jr. and the impending recall petition filed by both camps against each other.

Speaking before the 888 News Forum at Marco Polo Plaza, Red said he can attest that while the Durano brothers are now politically estranged, they remain brothers.

“I can assure you nga diri sa amo, we really discourage violence,” Red said.

The Durano brothers were politically allied when Nito was the mayor and Boy was the vice mayor until they changed positions after the 2010 elections.

“It’s a question of nagkalain-lain og prinsipyo in terms of governance ug unsaon pagpadagan sa syudad,” Red said.

The feud started when Boy assumed as mayor and contradicted the principles adhered by the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (BARUG) Party headed by his father, Red said.

Red further stated that his father confronted but failed to convince Boy to go back to the party’s principle in running the affairs of the city until the barangay elections came in October last year.

Mayor Boy reportedly fielded candidates against the barangay officials who sided with Vice Mayor Nito.

“Mao to iya gibuhat, gipakontrahan niya ang mga kapitan sa Danao. That was when the line was drawn,” Red said.

Red said barangay captains wanted to have the political problem solved and saw the petition for recall election against the mayor as the solution.

In July this year, Vice Mayor Nito and his council filed a recall petition against Mayor Boy and a few weeks later, the mayor also filed a recall petition against the vice mayor and his council.

The Commission on Elections En Banc ruled that the recall petition the vice mayor and his council filed against the mayor is sufficient, Boy filed a motion for reconsideration.

The case is now pending before the Comelec in Manila. —(FREEMAN)
