Talisay police to sue Joavan

- Ria Mae Y. Booc -

CEBU, Philippines -  The Talisay City Police Office will be filing charges against Joavan Fernandez for allegedly threatening a traffic enforcer and hitting a man on the head with a liquor bottle if both complainants will not show up to press charges.

Superintendent Eddie Recamara, chief of the Talisay City Police Office, said they need to establish witnesses first before they could file appropriate charges.

“If kami lang huyang ang kaso pero kung dunay witness mas maayo kay naay motestigo unya,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Talisay City police sent a formal invitation addressed to Regie Aranas and Marlorence Monreal asking them to appear for the filing of charges but both failed to show up.

Recamara assured that they have to implement the law because nobody is above it.

“Joavan is an ordinary person, pasakaan gyud siya ug kaso but until now we are still locating both victims,” he said.

Recamara also called to the public not to judge Joavan because there might be a reason why he did the recent incidents.

“Just a message to the public nga we will not judge him because until now we are not able to get his statement, we were not in the area where the incident happened so we did not know the circumstances…” Recamara said.

Aranas, 24, of Barangay Bulacao Pardo, Cebu City sustained a cut on his head after he was hit with a liquor bottle at Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City Tuesday dawn while they were inside a fast-food chain.

The incident started when Aranas who was with female friends, went to the counter to pay. At this moment, Joavan allegedly approached the victim’s friends and started mocking them.

Aranas approached Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez’s son to pacify him but Joavan allegedly hit Aranas with the bottle of liquor that he was holding.

In the other incident, Talisay City traffic enforcer Monreal claimed that Joavan threatened to kill him last Monday. Joavan reportedly denied Monreal’s allegations.

Monreal narrated that he chased a white BMW for beating a red light near a shopping mall in Barangay Tabunok when, instead of stopping, the driver tried to hit him and sped off.

He chased the vehicle towards Tabunok flyover where the vehicle stopped and Joavan emerged from the vehicle, threatening to have him fired or killed.

Both allegations were denied by Joavan but Recamara wants him to appear before the Talisay police to clear his side. — (FREEMAN)
