CEBU, Philippines - An old man was found dead along the shores of Tabogon town while another was found floating in the seawaters of Daanbantayan on Saturday.
Widower, Arquillano Catam-isan, 73, of Sitio Badiang, Barangay Kamubuan, was found dead along the shore after he was believed to have fallen off the cliff.
Catam-isan allegedly left their house at about 7:00 in the evening on Friday and failed to return home that night. His family looked for him but to no avail.
PO2 Junrey Frias said that the next morning, Catam-isan was discovered by his neighbors lying on a prone position at the foot of the cliff.
Catam-isan also had wounds and scratches on his head and face which police suspected to have been caused by hard objects when he fell off the cliff.
Frias said the incident was only reported by Catam-isan’s family but the victim’s body was submitted for autopsy to erase suspicions of foul play.
In another incident, a fisherman was found floating in the seawaters of Barangay Maya, Daanbantayan about 2:00 in the afternoon.
Rustico Buanghug, 49, of Sitio Pasil of the said barangay, allegedly asked permission from his family to go fishing but failed to return home that night.
Police said that Rudy Manatad and Fernando Velasco were about to go fishing on Saturday morning when they found the lifeless body of Buanghug, floating a few meters from the shoreline.
Both tried to rescue the victim and called municipal health officer, Dr. Nicomedes Jabel, who then pronounced Buanghug dead due to cardio respiratory arrest secondary to drowning.
Crisilda Buanghug, the victim’s wife, suspected that her husband had a heart attack while at sea.
She said that her husband was previously confined at the Dublin Medical and Maternity Clinic in Barangay Poblacion twice due to a heart problem and high blood pressure.
The victim’s remains now lies at their house for vigil. — (FREEMAN)
