Youth to help clean Compostela

-

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale has mobilized the youth to help in cleaning up the Municipality of Compostela whose elected officials still have not assumed office because of an ongoing protest.

Magpale organized the youth days after the town’s new caretaker, Ananias Mori Villacorta, assumed office last week as the new director of the Department of Interior and Local Government in Central Visayas.

Villacorta replaced Pedro Noval, Jr., who was transferred to his new position as DILG-8 director.

Magpale said she has yet to meet Villacorta since she organized the youth purposely to help clean the town proper especially the area around the municipal hall and the public market.

“Hugaw gyud kaayo, everytime I pass by mauwaw gyud ko kay akong district,” Magpale said.

Magpale said she is not blaming the people around because of the present situation of the town without any officials.

She promised to give P25,000 through Barangay Poblacion to start the activity. A former municipal employee who refused to be identified confirmed to The FREEMAN about the disorder of the town since no elected officials are implementing laws.

He cited the disorder in the public market wherein vendors just display their goods anywhere they want as well as the parking of public transportation.

“Mura’g disappointed ang mga tawo ba nga ang ilang gipili nga mga opisyal wa makahatag sa serbisyo nga ilang gipaabot maong bisan unsa na lang buhaton,” he said.

The DILG has been taking care of the municipality’s operations for over a year now after the Commission on Elections suspended the proclamation of the elected officials in the last 2010 elections.  (FREEMAN)
