Naga chief acknowledges men's mistakes

CEBU, Philippines - The chief of the Naga Police, Chief Insp. Timmar Alam, said yesterday he is willing to accept the consequence of the actions of his two men who were found violating the proper dress code during inspection.

Alam, however, stood ground that he has always inspected his men before deploying them to the field and what happened last October 31 was an isolated case, as far as his men are concerned.

“Tungod man sad na sa ka-busy nga nataligam-an ilabi na ug magdali,” Alam said.

No less than Provincial Police Director Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador caught PO2 Bonifacio Gabud and PO1 Neil Villaceran using unauthorized general office attire (GOA) type of uniform.

Comendador was on mobile on October 31 inspecting different police stations in Metro Cebu when he bumped into Gabud and Villaceran.

“Gipapauli nako sa station akong gipailis for improper used of uniform,” Comendador said.

As of yesterday, Comendador said he is yet to study and decide on what sanction he will give the two policemen. Alam, for his part, will reportedly be reoriented on how to supervise his men properly.

Alam already confiscated the unauthorized uniforms from his men last Monday.

Last Tuesday, five policemen including two officials have been relieved from their posts for violating a policy on the proper wearing of uniforms and command responsibility.

The order came from Police Regional Office-7 director Marcelo Garbo Jr. relieving PO2 Walter Quirol, PO2 Marlon Perolina and PO1 Andrew Boncales after he personally saw them not in proper police uniform. This violates the “Tamang Bihis” policy of the Philippine National Police.

Their immediate superiors, Sr. Inspector Michael Angelo Beltran and Insp. Wilson Abot, were likewise axed because of command responsibility.

Quirol, previously assigned at the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC), was transferred to Siquijor Provincial Police Office.

Boncales, who was assigned in Opao Police Station under Abot, will be transferred to Negros Oriental Provincial Police Office while Abot was reassigned from Mandaue to Bogo City.

Perolina on the other hand was caught last Sunday not wearing his field cap. From Talamban Police Station he was also transferred to Negros Oriental while his commander, Beltran, was reassigned to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit.

Comendador directed the two cops and their chief to appear at the provincial headquarters within the week to give their side. - THE FREEMAN
