Many employees absent from work

CEBU, Philippines - Many of the Cebu City Government employees did not report for work yesterday even if they knew that it was no longer part of the long holidays.

“Daghan g’yud kaayo ang wala motrabaho sa lain-laing departments,” said Jovy Morelos, head of the City Hall’s Human Resource Development Office.

Morelos failed to give an exact number of those who did not show up at their workplaces but Antonio Abella, head of HRDO’s Employees Welfare and Development Division, said there were 237 personnel who applied earlier for a leave of absence.

When The FREEMAN visited the HRDO yesterday, more than 10 of its personnel were absent.

Fortunately, people who went to the City Hall to transact business yesterday were few.

According to Morelos, those who did not report for work yesterday can file a sick leave or credit the day to their forced leave.

Many government employees merely file a sick leave whenever they fail to report for work.

A member of the HRDO staff said that although the explanations of the concerned personnel are sometimes doubtful, they have no choice but to accept the alibi especially if supported with medical certificates. - THE FREEMAN
