Traffic enforcers to serve summons
CEBU, Philippines - The City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM) has given its traffic enforcers additional work, aside from apprehending traffic violators, they are also task to serve summons issued by the Traffic Violations Bureau against erring drivers.
The new scheme will allegedly help improve the collection of fines from traffic violators who are mostly ignoring the citation tickets issued to them by CITOM personnel.
“Ang mga drayber nga among madakpan kami ra usab ang pahatagon sa summons. Walay problema sa mga PUJ apan lisud sa mga privately-owned vehicles,” a traffic enforcer said.
An erring driver who is issued a Traffic Citation Ticket is given seven days to pay the corresponding fine at the Traffic Violations Bureau. Failure to settle the obligation within the period is deemed as waiver on the part of the violator and a criminal case will be filed in court.
CITOM however wanted to give all violators a chance to settle their obligation with the traffic bureau. A huge amount of uncollected fines is estimated to have been accumulated in the traffic bureau.
Some of the drivers who were served summons by the traffic enforcers have engaged in heated arguments.
“Nangasuko ang mga drayber kay gidakop pa kuno sila karon pugson pa g’yud sa pagpa-adto sa CITOM office,” an enforcer said. – (FREEMAN)
