Former SK head posts P100T bail for robbery

CEBU, Philippines - Former Punta Princesa Sangguniang Kabataan chairwoman Manilyn Mar-Mier surrendered to the Cebu City Police Office yesterday after the court ordered her arrest for allegedly masterminding a robbery against her mother-in-law seven months ago.

Accompanied by her lawyer Jocsy Adlawan, Manilyn surrendered to the city police at around 10 a.m. yesterday and immediately posted the P100,000 bail set by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Soliver Peras.

She is accused of being behind the attempted robbery of her mother-in-law Maria Lina Mier last March 20.

This was after robbery suspects Sim Abordo and Roldan Ranollo tagged her as the mastermind behind the attempt to kill her mother-in-law in the guise of a robbery.

Abordo said that Manilyn paid them P33,000 as a down payment to kill Maria, but because of guilt they decided not push through with plan.

Manilyn insists that she is not capable of harming anyone and she is in good terms with her in-laws who supported her when she ran for councilwoman in Punta Princesa in 2007.

Based on Maria’s account, the suspects grabbed her bag that contained two Nokia mobile phones worth P17,000, two wallets with P340,000 cash and personal belongings when she was outside her office at the Maria Lina Catering Services in Punta Princesa.

But when the suspects were about to flee, Mier’s son, Kurt, quickly drove his car into the suspects’ motorcycle, which threw both men off.

Abordo and Ranolo were later cornered along Tres de Abril Street by bystanders.

Manilyn claimed she was inside their house when her mother-in-law was attacked. She said starting March 23 she was no longer allowed to enter the house following rumors she was behind the incident.

In order to get her things, he phoned a lawyer and was only allowed to pack her things and left with her two sons, one aged six and the other five. —/BRP (FREEMAN)
