Bulacan and Pampanga to get P5M each from Cebu

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Province and the provinces of Bulacan and Pampanga have yet to establish sisterhood ties, but this does not prevent the Province of Cebu from extending P5 million to each province which were badly hit by two recent typhoons.

It was Vice Governor Agnes Magpale who received a text message from the representative of the Vice Governors’ League of the Philippines about the two provinces’ call for assistance because they are badly affected by Typhoons “Pedring” and “Quiel.”

Magpale waited for Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to return from the United States and announced the giving of assistance yesterday.

Garcia said that Cebu must be thankful that tropical storm Ramon has spared the province when it changed direction. Garcia ordered to expedite the release of the checks so these could be sent immediately.

Magpale earlier said there was a call for local government units to help those who were affected by the typhoons that just visited Central Luzon.

Garcia said it has been the policy of the Province of Cebu to reach out to other provinces hit by calamity.

Recently, Garcia personally delivered a P5-million check to Governor Imee Marcos after typhoon “Mina” badly hit Ilocos Norte, destroying crops, roads, bridges and public buildings.

Cebu and Ilocos Norte are sister-provinces.

Meanwhile, Garcia also announced that the road in barangay Panugnawan, Medellin is already passable after the Provincial Engineering Office fixed it immediately.

Another road in northern Cebu which was reportedly damaged and no longer passable in Don Gregorio Antigua, Borbon is already being attended to by the Department of Public Works and Highways, being a national road.

Garcia said that the province is willing to extend assistance to DPWH to fast track the road repair if asked.  (FREEMAN)
