Social workers refreshed on case management skills

- Garry B. Lao -

CEBU, Philippines - At least 21 social workers from the different partner agencies of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas have undergone a refresher course on case management skills.

The training focused on the roles and functions of social workers in handling social welfare cases. DSWD-7 assistant director Nemia Antipala said the training helps licensed social workers working in their partner agencies to improve their ability to utilize various methods of assessment so as to produce a concise and informative assessment report including formulating effective intervention plans, recognizing errors in report writing and increase knowledge of correct common workplace English.

The training was in response to the urgent need to develop the competencies of social workers towards clinical and system approaches in managing cases.

Antipala added that social workers need to strengthen their competencies in case management to cope with their changing roles and functions brought about by drastic changes in people’s social functioning within an increasing complex environment.

Among the DSWD partner agencies which participated in the training were Cebu Hope Center, Little Bamboo Foundation, Visayan Forum, Antonia Oviedo, Phil. Association of Social Workers, Incorporated (PASWI), St. Peter Academy of Alegria Foundation, Inc., Children Shelter of Cebu (CSC), CFIC Brothers, CALANZANZ Cultural Center, USPF-COP, Options, Inc., Franciscan Children’s Home, ANCE, MJTRC, Talisay City-LGU, PTC and Parent’s Reach Foundation.
