Guadalupe-Oprra road repair set to start soon

- Rene U. Borromeo -

CEBU, Philippines - The repair of the damaged portion of a road that links barangay Guadalupe to sitio Oprra in barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City was already awarded to a private contractor and work is expected to start days from now.

Cebu City Engr. Kenneth Carmelita Enriquez said Goldfin Construction submitted the lowest amount in the bidding.

She, however, did not mention the price in her report to Mayor Michael Rama last Friday.

According to Enriquez, the resolution of the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) is being prepared now for its members to sign and for the approval of the mayor.

After the documents will be signed by the concerned officials, the notice of award will be issued so that the construction company can start the job.

Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas R. Osmeña had earlier criticized Rama for not giving priority to the completion of the road that he started few years ago.

When THE FREEMAN informed the congressman about the development, Osmeña welcomed it but he continued to criticize Rama for taking more than one year to attend to the issue.

When the road is passable to all kinds of vehicles except heavy ones, the volume of traffic along M. Velez and Escario Streets is expected to decrease.

The construction of a bridge that will link barangay Guadalupe to Kalunasan will surely make travel to barangay Lahug or vice versa much shorter and easier.

The bridge from Guadalupe will be linked to Obedience Street in barangay Kalunasan. — (FREEMAN)
