P14M infra projects break ground

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Government yesterday broke ground two multi-million infrastructure projects.

The projects include the P8 million rehabilitation of A. Soriano Street and the P6 million civil works for the rehabilitation of the Cebu City Sports Center.

The rehabilitation of A Soriano Street, from Conching Native Chicken to White Gold Club, already includes the drainage system that is expected to solve the flooding in the area which is getting frequent every time there is a heavy downpour.

Mayor Michael Rama graced both events and said there are more projects to be implemented within the year for the benefit of the constituents.

The civil works for the rehabilitation of the CCSC will include the replacement of the gate which will be widened and replaced with steel sliding gate. The existing oval track fence will also be removed and replaced with new removable fence.

Also part of the P6 million is the ground concreting in front of the grand stand, the reconditioning of the soccer field where the ground will be spread with new top garden soil.

The contract for the civil works was awarded to Keneto Contraks Inc. which has started working on the project since September 5.

The project is supposedly for 150 calendar days but the contractor assured all the major works will be completed before the end of the year in time for the Sinulog.

Ricky Ballesteros said they are confident that the asphalting and concreting including the replacement of the gate will be completed by December so the Sports Center will be ready for the Sinulog.

Ballesteros said they will allow the contractor of the P26-million rehabilitation of the track oval project to start after Sinulog because if they start it ahead, at least one month is needed for the curing.

The new rubberized oval might only be damaged if they allow it to be used during Sinulog. – (FREEMAN)
