Road restoration in T. Padilla: 15 families to receive compensation soon

CEBU, Philippines - The 15 fire victims in T. Padilla who partially and fully lose a space to rebuild their homes due to the road restoration in T. Villa St. will soon receive their assistance from the City Government after the City Council has approved the budget to compensate them.

The city government has earmarked P120,000 which will be charged against the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation Funds for the purpose.

The affected victims who will totally lose a space to rebuild their house are entitled to P10,000 while those who will be affected partially are entitled to P5,000.

The owners of the 15 structures affected were the only ones left who did not receive assistance from the city while the others, especially those structures affected in the similar road widening or restoration of F. Villa St. have already received their assistance.

Widening, asphalting and the construction of drainage system in T. Villa are in progress.

The homeowners to receive assistance are Rosario Riscar, Florencio Hontilla, Hermenia Reyes, Norberto Canete, Tito Colubio, Jose Villa, Arturo Villa, Joselito Villa, Clara Gacrama, May Cielo Selim and Juliet Ramos. Last month, the city government opened the now 10-meter F. Villa St. which was barely passable to vehicles a year ago.

The road restoration in both F. Villa and T. Villa Streets was triggered by the huge fire that hit the two sitios more than a year ago affecting hundreds of families.

The narrow roads were blamed for the huge fire because fire trucks had a hard time penetrating the area.

The budget for the widening of these two roads came from the standby budget of the City Engineering Office and from the donation of the Chinese Community.

The Chinese Community donated P300,000 for the beautification of the road which include the construction of the sidewalk.

A similar road restoration is being proposed in barangays Tejero and Carreta that were also hit by fire recently.

The city government assured the residents of Carreta and Tejero who will be affected by the restoration that they similarly be compensated. — (FREEMAN)
