11-year-old girl survives attack

CEBU, Philippines - An 11-year-old girl was found unconscious with several contusions in different parts of her body outside her house in Barangay Luyang, San Remigio town, early morning yesterday.

The victim was found by her 14-year-old sister who asked for help from their neighbors in bringing the victim to the Severo Verallo Memorial Hospital in Bogo City. She was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

The victim, a Grade 4 pupil at the Luyang Elementary School, and two other siblings usually sleep over with their grandmother who is living some distance from their house.

SPO1 Joe Jhoneskie Inot, the police investigator, said that the victim asked permission from her elder sister to go home ahead of them that morning.

Her elder sister said when she arrived in their house shortly after the victim, she was surprised to find her lying on the ground with contusions in her face and different parts of her body.

The sight prompted her to cry for help. Their neighbors then called the police station.

Police are clueless as to who attacked the girl since nobody noticed any commotion. They also said they cannot yet determine the cause of the contusions unless they have the results of the medical examination.

Inot said that the mother of the victim is working as a helper in Cebu City while their father has been detained for two months for frustrated murder.

“Ila rang apuhan nag-atiman nila pero mag-ulian sila sa ilaha kada adlaw,” Inot said.

The oldest among the four siblings is also working somewhere in Cebu City while the three of them remain in the care of their grandmother.

Police said they will go back to the victim’s house today for the gathering of evidence. (FREEMAN)
