CEBU, Philippines - A 10-year-old girl died after she was “accidentally” strangled by her younger sister’s hammock in their small house in Sitio Taup, Barangay Buot-Taup, Cebu City on Tuesday morning.
The girl, who is a grade 5 pupil, died when her sister’s improvised hammock accidentally strangled her at around 9:00 a.m.
When the girl’s dead body was discovered by her father and grandfather, the girl was reportedly kneeling on the bamboo floor with her head held high & tightly tangled with her sister’s hammock.
The father reportedly tried to save the girl’s life by quickly removing the tied hammock from her neck. Unfortunately, the girl was already dead.
According to her parents, the victim was last seen tending to her 1-year-old sister in the second floor of their wooden house in the said place.
Both of her parents were reportedly attending to several house chores before they left the girl with her younger sister inside the house.
Cebu City Police Office homicide investigators saw no sign of struggle on the girl’s body which rules out that the girl was killed.
Investigators only discovered strangulation marks from the hammock, adding that the girl might just be playing with the hammock when her neck got tangled with it.
They however reminded parents to be more cautious with their children especially when they are busy attending to other chores to prevent similar incidents.— (FREEMAN)
