CEBU, Philippines - In the hopes of uplifting the economic status of the poor in region 7 in the next five years, the Department of Social Welfare and Development is set to implement a convergence strategy involving their three major programs.
These includes the conditional cash transfer program more known as Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps), the community-driven development program Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) and the sustainable livelihood assistance program for the poor known as Self-Employment Assistance - Kaunlaran (SEA-K).
DSWD-7 regional director Ma. Evelyn Macapobre said the convergence strategy will lead to the integration of approaches and strategies that will enhance the implementation and lead to greater program impact.
“With this empowering direction and unified intervention strategy, the DSWD hopes to uplift the economic status of the poorest families in Central Visayas and in the entire country as well in the next five years,” Macapobre said.
According to Macapobre, DWSD-7 has called on all Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) teams positioned in the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor to prepare and ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the strategy.
“Convergence teams from the national to regional down to the city and municipal levels have also been formed to ensure that the operating mechanisms for the implementation of the convergence strategy are carried out,” she said. - (THE FREEMAN)
